In a decision that restores critical Clean Water Act protections for small headwater streams and wetlands across the country, a federal judge has vacated the 2020 “Navigable Waters Protection Rule” developed by the previous administration. That rule had stripped Clean Water Act protection from ephemeral streams, which are critical tributaries to larger streams.
“This is a big win for common sense, science, and clean water,” said Chris Wood, president and CEO of Trout Unlimited. “It is especially fitting that six Tribal nations, the representatives of peoples who have relied on clean water for millennia in North America, were the plaintiffs who won this landmark victory.”
CTU Develops New Partnerships with STREAM Keepers Programs
Summer 2021 brought a return to in-person programming and opportunities! With the recent success of the STREAM Girls program in reaching new audiences of elementary through middle-school girls and their families, CTU sought opportunities to adapt the program to reach new, diverse audiences. Fortunately, we were not alone in seeing this opportunity and could build off the STREAM Keepers resources developed by other TU volunteers and staff.
Another year, and more great things to report! This fiscal year was a very different one with the world grappling with the COVID-19 pandemic, but CTU continued through thanks to your support and volunteer efforts around the state. Thank you taking the time to see what we accomplished this past fiscal year!
RareWaters and Colorado Trout Unlimited are teaming up!
Colorado Trout Unlimited (CTU) and RareWaters are excited to announce a new partnership. With this partnership, we believe we'll be able to further the mission of both CTU and RareWaters.
RareWaters' mission is to spread the power of the outdoors and inspiration to conserve it. By leveraging modern day technology and a collective passion for getting more people on the water, RareWaters brings landowners and fly anglers together in one place. Anglers are able to book private ranches throughout Colorado and Wyoming in just a few clicks.
Anyone can book RareWaters' properties. Memberships are not required but each membership comes with perks and $25 of each membership will be donated to CTU. Sign up today!

Late summer can be some of the most enjoyable fly fishing of the year with the peak of the terrestrial season, wet wading, and who doesn’t like soaking up those sun rays of the “dog days” of summer?

We are still not quite out of the summer heat yet, so it is important to check the water temperatures before casting your line out.

Join Can'd Aid, Trout Unlimited, City of Longmont and the Left Hand Watershed Center in an effort to collect data and monitor the health of the St. Vrain Creek. We will meet at the Longmont Museum north parking lot, and disperse from there. Can'd Aid and Trout Unlimited will provide all necessary supplies-- just come ready to dive in and do some good!
We need volunteers to assist biologists in the mark and recapture process. Forest Service and US Fish and Wildlife staff will be present to give training and will help coordinate access to Long Draw Road.
Colorado Trout Unlimited is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to conserve, protect, and restore Colorado's coldwater fisheries and their watersheds.
