Be sure to follow both organizations on social media to see which one we will feature next. You can follow River Water of Colorado's Facebook, Instagram, Twitter. Their mission is to work with voluntary stewards to monitor water quality and other indicators of watershed health and utilize this high quality data to educate citizens and inform decision makers about the condition of Colorado’s waters. This important data is also used in the Clean Water Act decision-making process. | | | | | | The 2021 Fly Fishing Film Tour is here! These virtual programs empower girls to explore local watersheds through the eyes of a scientist, angler, and artist using self-guided activities supported by instructional videos. To further support STREAM Girls participants, Colorado Trout Unlimited volunteers will mentor girls throughout the experience and host a live fly-tying demonstration. Additionally, all necessary fly fishing gear, fly tying materials/tools, and program supplies will be provided to participants through equipment kits. Kits will be available for participants to pick-up and drop-off at central locations along Colorado Front Range. The two sessions are based around these pick-up/drop-off locations to ensure access to girls across Colorado’s Front Range (see event dates and registration links below). Virtual STREAM Girls - Northern Front Range (Longmont Pick-Up/Drop-Off): April 1 – 18, 2021 REGISTER HERE Virtual STREAM Girls - Southern Front Range (Larkspur Pick-Up/Drop-Off): April 29 – May 16, 2021 REGISTER HERE The virtual STREAM Girls events are open to all girls (grades 4-8). If girls have access to their own fly fishing gear and fly tying supplies, they are welcome to register from across the state! CTU is happy to be able to host these virtual programs this spring. We plan to return to in-person STREAM Girls event in Fall 2021! | | | Fishing with, and learning from, Sharon There are so many unsung women in history that made Trout Unlimited what it is today. In honor of Women’s History Month, let's celebrate one woman who has made an outsized impact on coldwater conservation, Sharon Lance. | | | | | Helping rivers & watersheds through your Colorado tax return You can help by supporting the Healthy Rivers Fund on your own 2020 Colorado tax return! By contributing a portion of your state tax refund toward the Healthy Rivers Fund, you will support the grant program and see your contribution pooled with those from thousands of other Coloradans and then leveraged by the local watershed partners to make a difference for the rivers you love. | | | | | Public lands package passes House - includes the Colorado Outdoor Recreation and Economy (CORE) Act The House of Representatives passed the Protecting America’s Wilderness Act (H.R. 803). Trout Unlimited strongly supports this legislation, as it will better conserve and restore public lands, watersheds and coldwater fisheries in four Western states and support the country’s commitment to countering the impacts of climate change by protecting at least 30 percent of our lands and waters by the year 2030. | | | | | The San Juan Worm, but make it wigglier The good, old San Juan Worm is one of the best fly patterns out there, so let's take it up a notch with these 4 ingredients to make the "Wiggler" version. | | | | | Indicator Fishing, mending the line You have plenty of practice catching trout on a dry fly, but knowing how to drift a nymph under an indicator will certainly help you catch more fish. | | | | | Winter 2021 High Country Angler Check out the Winter 2021 issue of High Country Angler e-zine! Featuring articles on fishing for Pike at Rocky Mountain Arsenal, a story about responsible oil and gas development from the Bull Moose Committee, a recap on CTU's digital Rendezvous including chapter and volunteer recognitions, CTU's STREAM Girls program, a story about the Rio Grande Cutthroat restoration on Sand Creek, and much more, including the regular columns: -
