NEW WATER QUALITY PROTECTION FOR SOUTHWEST COLORADO STREAMS!

On June 14, 2022 the Colorado Water Quality Control Commission designated 520 miles of 25 streams in southwestern Colorado as Outstanding Waters, adopting the largest community proposal for Outstanding Waters in history. Outstanding Waters (OW) is a designation under the Clean Water Act that provides anti-degradation protection to high-quality high-value waters. This package included 8 key cutthroat trout stronghold streams in the Upper Dolores basin as well as two important San Juan cutthroat trout streams.  Read more.

CPW SEEKS ANOTHER "EXTINCT" FISH

In recent years, CPW biologists have rediscovered remote populations of Greenback cutthroat trout and San Juan lineage cutthroat trout, both of which had been at one time thought extinct. So is there a chance that they could rediscover the extinct Yellowfin cutthroat in the upper Arkansas?  Read the Colorado Outdoors article here.

HIGH POTENTIAL FOR HARM: NEW TU REPORT ON SPECULATIVE O&G LEASING

Speculative leasing - sale of oil and gas leases, often at minimal bids and in areas with little potential for responsible energy development - can tie up public lands and put high value fish and wildlife resources at risk. A new report from Trout Unlimited and partners tells more of the story - click here to learn more and see how you can help!

CHECK OUT THE NEW SUMMER ISSUE OF HIGH COUNTRY ANGLER

You can click through to view or download the Summer issue of High Country Angler e-zine!  This issue includes a story on fishing the Lower Shoshone, Landon Mayer on finding big trout beyond the more obvious runs, the latest on the Trout in the Classroom program, a profile of river restoration specialist and philanthropist Clint Packo, and more!  Click here to read or download.

FEATURED PARTNER:  RARE WATERS

Rare Waters offers anglers the opportunity to enjoy fishing on private waters and escape the crowds affordably, and conservation-minded landowners the opportunity to generate income and allow controlled access for anglers to fish their water. With fly fishing and conservation as common ground, it is a perfect match! Learn more at their website!

  • July 18 - Colorado River Headwaters Banquet - Winter Park. This annual event will take place at the Headwaters Center - tickets include dinner and admission to the Headwaters River Journey museum, and proceeds support conservation efforts in the Fraser and Upper Colorado. Online silent auction available! Buy tickets or register for the online auction here.
  • August 19-20 - Superfly - Almont.  Join the Gunnison Angling Society chapter for this classic two-fly competition on waters of the Upper Gunnison basin, with proceeds benefiting conservation in the local watershed. Learn more and register here.
  • September 9-11 - GolfTrout - Steamboat Springs.  The Yampa Valley Fly Fishers chapter hosts this annual event combining fishing on local private waters with golf on a championship course; proceeds benefit Yampa River conservation. Learn more here.
  • September 17 - Carp Slam - Denver.  TU chapters work on and fish for more than trout! This is the Denver Chapter's annual competition and celebration benefiting conservation and restoration along the urban South Platte. Learn more here.
  • October 21-23 - CTU Rendezous - Hotel Colorado, Glenwood Springs.  Save the date for CTU's annual gathering with workshops and trainings for volunteers and chapter leaders along with fun activities and the chance to meet and mingle with other TU members and partners!
