| | | CTU River Stewardship Gala is March 7th | | | The annual CTU Gala is our largest fundraiser of the year and includes dinner, live and silent auctions, raffles, speakers, and more! Don't wait to get your tickets, as this will be a sell out event. This year the Gala will be at a new location – the Denver Museum of Nature and Science – including access to its Space Odyssey exhibit. We will be honoring Bob and Suzanne Fanch, owners of Devils Thumb Ranch and the Headwaters Center, for their leadership in conserving the headwaters of the Colorado and Fraser Rivers in Grand County. Whether supporting needed studies to understand the impacts of water diversions on local rivers so they can be addressed, or stepping up to partner on the first public-private pilot project in the “Learning by Doing” program for habitat restoration at the Fraser Flats reach, or conceiving and establishing the Headwaters River Journey museum to educate youth and visitors to Grand County about rivers and their stewardship – the Fanches for years have been in the forefront of river conservation in Grand County. Can’t make it in person? You can still participate in the silent auction and enter a special VIP raffle for a two person, three day trip through the Gunnison Gorge with Black Canyon Anglers. | | | | | | | Protecting Colorado Waters and Wetlands Last May, the US Supreme Court stripped protections from many of Colorado’s wetlands and waters, dramatically narrowing the scope of waters covered under the Federal Clean Water Act. Colorado’s General Assembly will now be taking up the issue to see how our State will choose to protect those waterways through state law. What are some of the key elements that Trout Unlimited is seeking in a bill protecting our waters from dredge and fill activities? | | | | | | 2024 STREAM Programs Announced STREAM Programs are incredible environmental education programs for youth, families, and the community that incorporates river conservation, outdoor exploration, and fly fishing skills. We take the traditional STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) educational model and add recreation and arts to create STREAM. CTU works closely with TU Chapters and Partner Organizations to make these programs possible. | | | | | | Colorado River Connectivity Channel Successfully Reconnects Colorado River Stakeholders gathered on the bank of the newly created Colorado River Connectivity Channel in Granby. The group watched as the first flows of water passed through the connectivity channel around a restructured Windy Gap Reservoir. Watch the video from our partners at Northern Water. | | | | | | CTU Awarded $150,000 Grant The Colorado River District has awarded Colorado Trout Unlimited $150,000 through the Community Funding Partnership to aid in implementing Phase 3 of the Middle Colorado Agricultural Collaborative. This project focuses on upgrading five diversions along Elk and Canyon Creeks. | | | | | | 2024 Troutfest Colorado Registration for Troutfest Colorado 2024 is open! In collaboration with Learning by Doing and our 2024 River Stewardship Gala honorees Bob and Suzanne Fanch, Freestone Aquatics conducted the first, highly-successful restoration project for the Learning by Doing program at the Fraser Flats reach of the Fraser River near Tabernash – creating a healthier river channel that now supports more robust populations of trout and macroinvertebrates. Watch the video. Freestone has been a leader on similar conservation projects on a wide range of rivers facing diverse challenges, from the Colorado River through Middle Park to the North Fork of the South Platte.
