The U.S. Senate is expected to vote next week on the Great American Outdoors Act, providing full dedicated funding to the Land and Water Conservation Fund and providing $9.5 billion over five years to help address deferred maintenance needs on public lands. CTU thanks Senators Bennet and Gardner for their support of this important legislation. We also thank our many members who have reached out to their elected officials in support of public lands; your voices have helped build the political momentum that is propelling this legislation. If you haven’t yet done so, consider taking a moment to thank our Senators for their efforts on this bill by clickinghere.
Colorado TU will be hosting a series of "Happy Hour" and "Coffee Talk" sessions this summer to provide a casual space for Colorado leaders to share stories and ideas about a wide variety of important topics. We hope that you will join us for some great discussions with fellow members and continue to build a stronger TU in Colorado!
And the winner of our #COPublicLandsDay Instagram Photo Contest Is... @deedee.shulman
@deedee.shulman told us that the photo was taken on August 11, 2017 at 7:13am on the channel between Grand Lake and Shadow Mountain Reservoir. "My family has a cabin that is 100 years old located in old Grand Lake City. I took the photo early one morning when I was walking my golden retriever, Biscuit. Being a Colorado native, this photo captured a moment of peace and tranquility that is often felt by many who are fortunate to live near and experience Colorado Public Lands."
Tied Runner Up: @caitlinthebus told us that her friend took this picture while fishing on the Yampa River in Steamboat Springs, CO. When asked about why public lands are important to her, she said "I'm so grateful for public land and being able to explore. I feel free in nature and I love it! It was a pretty evening to go fish after getting off work, which I also love to do. I am so glad I live in an area where I can just fish right after work! I love Colorado."
Tied Runner Up:
@Thetravelingtacos told us that they took this photo on on a camping trip to Radium Hot Springs outside of Kremmling. They also let us know that the "photo was the view from our campsite right along the Colorado River. We spent the weekend there fishing, hiking, and just hanging out. It was a perfect get away that needed no planning, reservations, or anything like that - which is my favorite part of Colorado's public lands. They are always open to everyone, and they are so easy to access!"

Hare’s Ears are mayfly nymphs, and the fly is among the most consistent trout producers on virtually any river or stream that hosts mayfly hatches. Tied in fairly common sizes — say, 12 to 16 — these nymphs are excellent searching patterns and work wonders under high-floating indicators in just about any stretch of trout water.
This issues features an article on fishing Trappers Lake, a report on an important legislative victory for instream flows, Spring fishing tips with Landon Mayer, photos and the story from the annual Frostbite Fish-off in Pueblo, and the regular columns.
