Protecting, Restoring & Enjoying Colorado's Gold Medal Waters From the South Platte to the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, the Colorado to the Arkansas, Colorado's gold medal fisheries are among our state's most treasured natural and recreational resources. Gold medal waters must meet strong standards for total numbers of fish, as well as for larger fish (greater than 14") - and typically provide some of Colorado's best opportunities for pursuing trophy trout. You may have seen the launch of a special newsletter celebrating "Colorado Gold" - TU's campaign to build broader engagement and support for our existing Gold Medal waters, and for boosting other waters to achieve Gold Medal status. If you missed it, check out the summary here - including more good news as we draw closer to construction on the Colorado River Connectivity Project to reconnect the Colorado River at Windy Gap, improve its water quality and habitat downstream, and add a mile of new publicly-accessible fishing water in the new channel. Our Gold Medal rivers need voices for their protection, and an emerging threat to the Colorado River is one example. TU recently reached out to Colorado elected officials seeking their help in opposing the Uinta Basin Railway - which would result in 10 two-mile trains a day carrying waxy crude oil along the railway paralleling some of Colorado's finest gold medal water, and according to the project EIS the likelihood of nearly a spill per year. Your continued involvement helps us bring a voice for trout to these kind of issues - thank you! To help support CTU's conservation efforts, we are also launching a special raffle where one lucky winner will receive four guided fishing trips on different Gold Medal waters: the Arkansas, Colorado, Fryingpan or Roaring Fork, and South Platte. You can enter for your chance to win here! A big thanks to our friends with Arkanglers, Cutthroat Anglers, Roaring Fork Anglers, and Blue Quill Angler for their support of this raffle. | |
